The Greenway is a wildlife corridor linking Brighton Station and the New England Quarter which opened to the public in 2015.
Green space is a vital commodity in city centres and the planners were keen to support a design that provided wildflower meadows rich in biodiverse plants, ideal for a variety of pollinators such as bumblebees and butterflies.
The general planting mix of grasses and perennials along the length of the Greenway forms a naturalistic blend of species which knit together to create a diverse ground cover full of texture and movement. These species are able to maintain their structure through the winter months providing shelter and seeds for wildlife.
The sculptural seating and gabion habitat areas were designed by Plan Projects who collaborated on the scheme.
