Weald & Downland Open Air Museum

Weald & Downland Open Air Museum Gateway Project is the museum's most ambitious development project since building the award-winning Downland Gridshell Conservation Workshop in 2002. The project provides the site with a new visitors centre and cafe facilities generously funded by The Heritage Lottery Fund and grants from trustees and supporters. Award winning architects ABIR based in Hove have responded to the brief by creating an informal cluster of buildings forming the new meeting point of the site.

la:nd studio has been involved since the very beginning of the planning process to improve the visitor experience upon arrival. We have designed a new parking layout along with link-pathways which meander through the woodland. The old millpond is also being restored with new marginal planting.
