People's Promenade, Brighton

nd:studio has been invited to submit a design for an urban green space along a section of Brighton's promenade and above a proposed development to revitalise the dilapidated Madeira Terrace area.

The vision is to extend the upper promenade towards the sea and create an area comparable to the prom and lawns in Hove.

We have incorporated a stretch of gentle cliff-top sloping wildlife areas with rammed chalk walls. We would resurface the promenade to maintain shared bike and people use and create a more tranquil walk along the repositioned railings. We would also include benches so people can enjoy the view from the upper promenade.

This project is not set in stone. However, as we are passionate about getting more green spaces in Brighton, we are excited by the prospect of it.

We are working with Roger Wade of Boxpark and Paul Nicholson of Chalk Architecture.
