We are a landscape design studio that believe that simplicity, nature and wildlife should be central to the design process.
Landscape-led projects create outdoor spaces that allow people to gain the benefits of being close to nature and let children discover and learn through natural play.
There is an increasing pressure on our environment and as landscape designers, we are in a position to make a real difference. Roof terraces, private gardens, large landscapes and commercial developments can all contribute towards rich and biodiverse surroundings.
SDNPA Landscape-Led Approach
What is Paragraph 79 (former Paragraph 55)?
Paragraph 79 (former paragraph 55) refers to a section of the 2018 National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) relating to building new isolated homes in the open countryside. In July 2018, the government updated the NPPF. The ‘Paragraph 55’ (or ‘Para 55’) policy changed in name to ‘Paragraph 79’, though the content itself remains intact. If there ever was a part of a planning policy that could be described as truly ‘interesting’, then Paragraph 79 of the NPPF would be one of the contenders. For a client, the policy allows the possibility to build an unprecedented home on a piece of land that would otherwise be unsuitable for development, and in so doing, to commission and own a bespoke piece of architecture.
We provide landscape plans and hand-drawn visuals to articulate the narrative behind the design, materiality and contextural relationship of the proposed house and garden to the local planning authority or design review panel.
